Woman Stabbed After Man Cat-called Her
Street harassment in the form of catcalling for women can be risky and scary, but for one woman in New York City, it became extremely dangerous.
A woman taking the subway, presumably after work, was slashed by a man in a downtown Manhattan subway station over the weekend.
According to the NYPD, the assault occurred in the daytime on Saturday, May 2, at the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall station.
The police said:
“[The] suspect attempted to engage the victim, a 34-year-old female, in conversation. When the victim ignored the suspect, the suspect spat at the victim, who then began to laugh at the suspect. The suspect then took out a sharp instrument, slashed the victim in the arm and then fled the station.”
The woman was treated for her wound at the Beekman Hospital.
Police released surveillance video of the suspect. He’s described as being around 35 years old, 5’6 and weighing 165 pounds.
