Sanaa Lathan Wows at 43 in Upscale Magazine!

One of our favorite actresses, Sanaa Lathan, is on the cover of the August/September issue of Upscale magazine!

Lathan has a couple upcoming projects we’re looking forward to, including the “The Perfect Guy” with Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy premiering next month, next year’s Best Man Wedding and her starring role and executive producing the classic book turned movie, Flyy Girl!

The soon-to-be 44-year-old opened up to the magazine about nepotism and being a celebrity.

Lathan’s father is director Stan Lathan, which has lead some to believe why she’s been successful in Hollywood. But be clear! Ms. Lathan is also a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

“I was a toddler on Broadway, basically. My mom was in the original cast of ‘The Wiz’ on Broadway. I was always around it, behind the scenes. My father was the first Black director in TV. It gets no more in your face than that,” said Lathan when describing acting as her destiny.

Even though Lathan’s father is a trailblazer in Hollywood, she has never worked with him.

Lathan starred in some of our favorite films and box-office hits, but she doesn’t consider herself to be a celebrity.

“I don’t feel like a celebrity until I’m doing interviews like this. I walk around in sweats. I’m not always hair and makeup ready, and I have real people around me. That’s the key. You can’t help but stay in the pocket, because real people don’t tolerate anything else.”

We agree!

At this point in her career, Lathan wants to move behind the camera, which has become evident with her being a producer and star in the film adaption of the novel Flyy Girl, written by Omar Tyree.

“I am moving to the behind-the-scenes aspect now. When you’ve been in the business so long, you say to yourself, ‘I know how to do this’ I know you can never say never, but I’ll never stop acting. I’ll just keep adding to what the word “performance” ultimately means to me.”

We can’t wait to see what our girl does next!

props!
