Meet the Birchbox for Tampons!

It’s hard—and kind of scary— after all these years, we still don’t know what’s in the average tampon. We all know they absorb, but that’s about it. This is mainly because tampons aren’t regulated by the FDA, even though they are inserted into our bodies.

Now a new tampon brand is hoping to change all of this and make that time of the month less miserable for women.

Meet the Birchbox for tampons!

Entrepreneurs Jordan Kier and Alex Friedman developed LOLA, a genius and affordable tampon subscription service that can be delivered to straight to your front door, just like your favorite beauty brands in Birchbox or Curlbox!

LOLA tampons are 100 percent cotton with no additives—something the two entrepreneurs made sure of since they couldn’t even figure out what was in the average tampon, even after extensive lab testing.

“The more we started doing research around the ingredients and what was actually in the products, and the more we realized we couldn’t figure it out,” Kier told ELLE. “It’s hard to know what the composition is because cotton supply changes every single year, and nobody has to say what the breakdown is.”

Their guess is that tampons have a blend of polyester, rayon and some cotton, but this doesn’t exclude preservatives, fragrances or dyes.

What’s great is that these tampons work just like the ones we buy from our local drugstore. There is an applicator made of BPA-free, recyclable plastic. Another plus is that the subscription service is only $10 a box or two for $18, you can pick the number of different absorbencies based on your cycle.

Also, the packaging is a box that simply says “LOLA,” and remains discrete about its contents, so you can leave it out in your bathroom without people knowing Aunt Flo is in town.

LOLA is available now at mylola.com
