Idris Elba Talks His New Doc ‘Mandela, My Dad and Me’
Our daily #MCM Idris Elba is shopping his new documentary, Mandela, My Dad and Me at the Marché International des Programmes de Télévision, an annual event in Cannes, France, where filmmakers get their content financed.
According to a press release, the 60-minute film, directed by BAFTA-winning director Daniel Vernon will follow the Mandela mega star on a “journey of self-exploration”, from his time shooting Mandela in South Africa to dealing with the loss of his father. The doc, produced by Elba’s Green Door Pictures production company, was originally slated to be a behind-the-scenes look at Elba’s album, but it eventually became more about South Africa and the loss of his father.
“I had just loss my father just before I went to make the album so this movie became about my loss and some of the things I was down for,” Elba revealed to MIPTV while standing in front of a gigantic Cannes-style yacht that has us wishing we’re in bikinis ready to board!
No trailer or no USA release date on the doc just yet. But you can be certain we’ll keep you posted on it.
