I Need a Man in Ozwald Boateng
“Said she would love me in my Ozwald Boateng.” — Nas, “Getting Married”
There’s nothing more sexy, more refined, than a grown ass man in Ozwald Boateng. Period.
Boateng is an English menswear designer (of Ghanian decent) notorious for his bespoke suits with classic British tailoring. When you see a mens suit with a pop of color or color on the jacket lining, it’s likely Boateng. Arguably Boateng single-handedly revolutionized bright colors in menswear suits.
Noted for being the first designer of color to open a shop on London’s iconic Savile Row in 1995, Boateng’s modern approach to menswear design helped draw a more youthful demo to the acclaimed fashion district and breathed new life in global menswear.
His suits offer a designer alternative for celebrity men to wearing the usual Tom Ford or Gucci suit on red carpets. Boateng has designed custom suits for Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Nas, Laurence Fishburne, Diddy, and England’s own Idris Elba among other notables. He’s also designed menswear for leads in the films Tomorrow Never Dies (Pierce Brosnan), Alfie (Jude Law), Ocean’s 13 (Brad Pitt, George Clooney, etc.), and Rush Hour 3 (Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan).
Idris Elba hit the red carpet at the South Africa premiere of Mandela wearing Boateng, and Jamie Foxx—arguably Boateng’s most faithful patron and dear friend, wore Boateng throughout much of the press tour for Django Unchained.
Unfortunately for some fashion lovers, Boateng falls under the radar. Boateng is undoubtedly an icon in his own right, and fly as hell. I encourage fellas who are looking for suits for memorable moments like weddings and milestone birthdays to consider Boateng.
