The beauty community welcomes a new boutique experience for women of color right in the heart of Harlem!

Vivrant Beauty is a new independent beauty retailer that caters to women of all skin tones, and hair textures. Owned and operated by former lawyer and Harlem-native Desiree Verdejo, the store is all about catering to women’s unique individual needs.

When you first walk in Vivrant, the space is intimate and inviting.

Bright Caribbean blue walls, Art Deco product displays and carefully curated products line the walls. It’s the new go to spot for one-on-one customer service and product you can’t find just anywhere.

The boutique is broken up into three main sections: skin/body care, cosmetics, and hair care.

The shelves boasts an impressive array of obsessive, independently owned and ingredient-conscious beauty goodies.

“Vivrant is quieter than some of the other big retailers and it makes beauty regiments much more simplified.”

When you stroll into the store, one of the products that will undoubtedly snatch your gaze is the gold plated razor and shave oil from Oui.

Or maybe one of Verdejo’s personal favorite: the Foreo Luna face cleansing brush, a more sanitary and cost-effective alternative to the popular Clarisonic brush.

“The breadth of our collection is something I’m proud of, and I think people have really liked the difference,” says Verdejo.

Vivrant’s makeup offerings focuses on products you don’t typically see when you stroll into a Sephora or department stores. Emerging brands like Perfect Face by Ashunta Sheriff, a master makeup artist and Harlem local who’s known for her fierce work beating Taraji P. Henson‘s face into the beloved Cookie Lyon on “Empire“.

The boutique also works to be environmentally aware. Verdejo assures they only sell five-free non toxic nail polishes, including the Black-owned favorite Ginger & Liz.

Verdejo spent seven years working in financial law and climbing the corporate ladder, but she always had her heart set on beauty. She’s extraordinary example of following your dreams and this rising girl boss spent over a year concepting a solid plan for taking her new beauty brand from a mere dream to a storefront reality!

“I didn’t want to go into the new year as a lawyer, I was putting off a lot of life decisions,” Verdejo shares.

“I applied for a business loan January 2nd, and was rejected the first time, but that’s life, ” she recalls.

But Verdejo is certain her new professional title, is a permanent one.

“I feel like I’m using skills I have that I never would have tapped into as a lawyer. I’m definitely doing what I’m supposed to be doing. It definitely feels right.”

Desiree says she’s never been happier and if nothing else, she wants Vivrant to make beauty more accessible to all women.

On the store’s tranquil presence, she says, “Vivrant is quieter than some of the other big retailers and it makes beauty regiments much more simplified.”

The boutique feel is less likely to intimidate women and will make the idea of establishing a beauty routine less daunting and more exciting.

Vivrant is location at 220 St. Nicholas Ave at 121st street. They’re open seven days a week from noon to 8pm and until 6pm on Sundays.
