Beyonce Turned Down ‘The Wiz’ Twice!

Beyoncé may be easing on down the road sometime soon.

The superstar has reportedly been offered the role of Glinda the Good Witch in NBC’s upcoming live production of The Wiz.

If she signs on, Beyoncé will round out an already star-studded cast. Mary J. Blige (The Wicked Witch of the West), Queen Latifah (The Wizard) and Stephanie Mills (Auntie Em), who was in the original Broadway play, will all appear in the production.

Should Beyoncé decline the role (which she probably will–she’s already turned down the role twice and we all know that acting isn’t necessarily her forte…so live acting?? naaaaah). Uzo Aduba, aka Crazy Eyes from “Orange Is The New Black,” is on the short list of actresses that producers are considering. So viewers will get a treat either way.

The Wiz is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and features a mostly Black cast and funkier music.

Diana Ross and Michael Jackson both starred in the original version of the film in 1978. In 1975, the Broadway play production, which starred Phylicia Rashad as well, won seven Tony’s, including Best Musical.
