The 2017 Met Gala Theme Revealed

The first Monday is in May is always one of the biggest nights in the fashion world. The annual Met Gala takes place where Hollywood and fashion’s biggest stars come out in their best over the top ensembles. Every year, there’s a theme and the Costume Institute’s theme for 2017 is Rei Kawakubo, a Japanese designer, who will be celebrated for her work at Comme des Garcons, which she founded in 1973.

“Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years,” said Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s curator, to Vogue.

“By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, re-creation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”

Kawakubo’s work at Comme des Garcons will be displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a total of 120 pieces.

We can only imagine how Met Gala mainstays such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Katy Perry among others will incorporate their theme into their designer gowns.
