Malia Obama Will Attend Harvard After Taking A Gap Year

Yesterday, it was officially announced by the White House Malia Obama, the oldest daughter of President Obama and the First Lady, chose Harvard University to attend for college, but she would be enrolling in the fall of 2017 after taking a gap year.

“The President and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021. Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” said the official statement.

A gap year is an option high school seniors use to seek experiences outside the classroom before they begin their degree. It’s also something Harvard encourages students to do.

For the past several months, Malia was seen visiting colleges along the east and west coasts with many speculating where she would be attending. The White House refused to comment until now.

After spending eight years in the White House, Malia probably wants some time off to herself to explore her interests before possibly being placed in a bubble again when she attends Harvard.

The Obamas already announced they’ll be staying in Washington, D.C. for the next two years while their youngest daughter, Sasha, finishes high school.
