How Long Until You Say “I Love You”?
One of the scariest parts about being in a relationship is deciding when to say the l-word. Millennial’s don’t seem like a generation that throws the word around lightly. In fact we’re a generation more likely to be more comfortable sleeping with someone than we are to be open enough to tell the other person how we feel.
Match.com, decided to take a look at how soon people are saying those three words in their relationships. They surveyed over 2,000 British men and women about love milestones including things like sleeping together, saying “I love you” and the biggest leap of all, making it Facebook official. *gasps* It’s one thing for you to know you’re serious, but it’s a whole other thing to declare it to the world.
It turns out millennials really are more prepared to jump into bed than they are a relationship. Twenty-seven percent of participants said they would wait a week or two before having sex and even 34 percent said that they’d wait the same amount of time before engaging in PDA.
On average, couples usually wait about 5 months before dropping the l bomb which also happens to be around the amount of time it takes someone to change their relationship status on Facebook. Just further proof the most trustworthy and honest mark of a person’s relationship is what their Facebook says about it.
Once the l word has made its way into the relationship it’s all downhill from there. On average couples who meet in their 20s get engaged after two years, married after three, and start a family after four.
