Watch Black Women’s Reactions to the Words “Skin Tone”
When someone says “skin tone” what comes to mind? Is it prejudice, different treatment, pain, or maybe indifference?
In a new segment from Cut.com’s “One Word” series Black women respond to the word skin tone and the stories are the most relateable thing you will watch all day.
For a number of women the first thing that comes to mind is beauty, their pride in their melanin and how differently it presents itself among Black women.
But for others the word reminds them of the messy history that the shades of their skin carry.
Even more of them recall the hurtful things they’ve been told about their skin and how many times those things have been said by other Black people.
The video is an enlightening reminder that most times colorism runs deepest in our own community.
Check out the video and hear what these women had to say.
