This President Barack Obama’s last year in office. And after two terms, eight years, of progress, iconic Black excellence, and real change, no matter what the haters say, we can’t help but to be a little worried about what years ahead brings for this nation.
Tuesday night, President Obama gave his final State of the Union address which was beyond a sad moment for his supporters and all of Black America. The President addressed the economy, making college affordable, the war on terror. Obama took some not so subtle shots at Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Here’s the highlights!
President Obama called out politicians who insult Muslims
By now, we’re all aware of Trump’s fear-mongering tactics when it comes to Muslims and immigrants, so it was no surprise President Obama addressed those Americans who do such things.
“When politicians insult Muslims, whether abroad or our fellow citizens, when a mosque is vandalized, or a kid is called names, that doesn’t make us safer. That’s not telling it like it is. It’s just wrong. It diminishes us in the eyes of the world. It makes it harder to achieve our goals. And it betrays who we are as a country.”
Indeed, Mr. President!
President Obama spoke of his regrets as President
When speaking of “one of the few regrets” of his presidency, President Obama said America is more divided, not less, than when he began his tenure.
“Too many Americans feel that way right now. It’s one of the few regrets of my presidency — that the rancor and suspicion between the parties has gotten worse instead of better. There’s no doubt a president with the gifts of Lincoln or Roosevelt might have better bridged the divide, and I guarantee I’ll keep trying to be better so long as I hold this office.”
The economy is growing
President Obama took credit for the creation of 14 million new jobs and cutting the unemployment rate in half. He said you were “peddling fiction” if you believed the economy was in decline. Word!
First Lady Michelle Obama’s Marigold Dress
Yes, we were all tuned in to watch President Obama address the nation, but we couldn’t keep our eyes off the fact the First Lady looked stunning in a marigold Narcisco Rodriguez dress, which is now sold out.
