Having Sex at the Gym Isn’t Just for Gay Men!

Your local gym may be more crowded than usual due to people trying to start their year off right by getting in shape.

However, according to a new study conducted by the Anne Summers sex shop, people are going to the gym to break a sweat in more ways than one. Anne Summers’ online poll of 2, 000 people found 25 percent of participants admitted to having sex at their gyms during their membership.

Also, if people weren’t getting any action at the gym, they were thinking about it.

70 percent of women who took the poll said they considered having sex with their personal trainers.  Overall, 66 percent of those polled used the possibility of sex at the gym as a deciding factor when it came down to their decision to work out. One in 10 people brought condoms in their bags “just in case.”

So, why is going to the gym making some people more open to having sex?  Research shows there is a relationship between regular exercise and libido. When a person exercises on a regular basis, there are increases in their levels of serotonin and dopamine. High levels of serotonin are linked to heightened libido and positive moods and dopamine increases the ability to feel pleasure.

Let’s also remember, many people consider the gym to be one of the best places to meet people.

When you exercise, you’re doing so not only to be healthy, but to feel good and look good. When you feel you look good, there’s a higher chance you’ll engage in sexual activity.

If you do have sex at the gym, be careful so you don’t catch a case of MRSA. That wouldn’t be cute.
