Muhammad Ali is Not Happy with Donald Trump!
In a statement released Wednesday, Muhammad Ali made his stance on both extremists and Donald Trump’s plan to bar Muslims from the United States clear.
The former boxing champion spoke out against Muslim extremists using Islam for their own motives. He drew attention to the principles of the religion reiterating the killing of innocent people is not apart of the religion.
“I am a Muslim and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world,” the three-time iconic world heavyweight champion said in a statement. “True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion.”
Ali, who has famously practiced Islam since 1975, also addressed Trump’s statements to ban all Muslims entering the United States, a comment that has his campaign hanging in the balance, stating that candidates should use their platforms to bring understanding of Islam rather than division.
“I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islam really is”
Although the champ has battled Parkinson’s disease for a decade, he’s still using his platform to address world issues. Most recently, in March, Ali called for the Iranian government to release imprisoned Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian.
While greatly respected for what he did in the ring, it is what Ali continues to do outside of the ring that remains the most admirable part of his legacy!
