Meet the Little Girl Playing Nicki Minaj on Her New TV Series!

Back in September, we told you Nicki Minaj was gearing up for a sitcom on ABC (soon to be known as Freeform) depicting her childhood growing up in Queens, NY.

Today, Minaj announced the casting and most importantly who will be playing a young version of her!

The role went to Ariana Neal who has appeared in films such as Get Hard and Fruitvale Station. Minaj wrote on her Instagram, “I literally cried watching her taped audition. I demanded to meet her! Sat in a room with her teaching her how to rap by doing a beat on the table & forcing her to stay on beat! Lol. Then pulled out all the attitude she had in her lil body. Haha! She’s tough! And so sweet & cute.”

Other cast members will include model Selita Ebanks as Minaj’s mother, Grace, Wesley Jonathan will play Minaj’s father, Vincent, and Whoopi Goldberg will have a guest starring role as the family’s neighbor, Miss Martha.

The show now called, “Nicki,” doesn’t have a set premiere date, but Minaj says it will begin airing in 2016.

If you’re curious why Minaj chose Neal for the starring role, watch this video of the young actress singing Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”! We can’t wait to see how this show turns out!
