In with Raven-Symone, out with Rosie Perez! ‘The View‘ had another cast shake-up and understandably Perez is out after months of rumors there was trouble behind-the-scenes leaving current hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Symone, and Nicole Wallace.
The show’s executive producer Bill Wolf says the former host decided to focus on acting. Perez balanced hosting duties while appearing in the Broadway play “Fish in the Dark.”
Honestly, this wasn’t the gig for Perez. We’ve been loving her since she was doing the cabbage patch on “Soul Train”—we weren’t born yet but we live for the gifs. We loved her in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, and her stint as a bossy publicist on ‘Lipstick Jungle,’ remember that show?!
But let’s keep it 100. Rosie from Brooklyn couldn’t hang.
On several episodes, it was easily detectable Perez wasn’t comfortable in her seat at the table. She lacked insight on politics or any of the other pop culture-related topics the ladies ranted about. Her commentary wasn’t developed, much like a pre-teen in a training bra—and well, let’s just face it, there are loads of other fierce and smart chicks just waiting on their chance to dish on daytime TV’s most coveted panel.
Here’s Jawbreaker’s picks for fierce and smart women who can easily fill Perez’s seat!
1. Lala Anthony
The TV personality and actress is a hosting vet! Getting her start on a local Atlanta station at 16, Anthony became the only brown girl host on MTV’s hit “TRL”, and we know we weren’t the only girls who lived for her then!
Not only has the starlet appeared as a guest host on ‘The View’ loads of times—which sort of means producers were considering her— she can hold it down with no fear on politics, pop culture, relationships and just about anything else they throw at her. Plus, she’s a much-needed balance for Symone, and we could possibly expect some heated debates between the two!
2. Michelle Williams
The former “Destiny’s Child” singer has also been a guest host on the daytime show. Williams’ is smart, witty, she’s beloved by scores of fans and her Christian perspective can be a great balance to the super liberal opinions Whoopi Goldberg has, and whatever new mess comes out of Symone’s mouth!
3. Chrissy Teigen
Teigen isn’t a brown girl, but she’s a woman of color, and she’s fearless as hell and basically game for anything! We’re loving her take on the #FreeTheNipple movement. Teigen is all about girl power and she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s a good pick to bring a bit of excitement to the show—not to mention those handy style and beauty segments!
4. Star Jones
Don’t front! Star Jones held it down on the show’s panel for years before she was canned by Barbara Walters! This is one of those tough love moments when the show’s producers have to realize behind-the-scenes egos can’t be bigger than what’s on air!
Jones gives legal eagle fierceness and never-scared commentary on issues that matter regarding race, gender and politics in America. She’s relatable to scores of women who watch the show, and from the looks of things, she’s available, so slot her in Wolf!
5. Mindy Kahling
Smarts, humor, woman of color. Umm…Mindy Kahling has it all! The comedienne is very available since her show ‘The Mindy Project’ was cut after three amazing seasons. She’s the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out With Me, And Other Concerns, the obligatory millennial guide to basically everything, plus three other books.
As an Indian-American, she can offer the often obscured point of view for women who aren’t Black, White or Asian and she’s funny as hell. Pick her!
