The BET Awards became iconic for giving viewers unforgettable moments! And Sunday night’s massive show, hosted by ‘Black-ish‘ stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, didn’t disappoint! There were major tributes, reunions, beef was squashed, and oh! Awards were given out too.
Here’s the BET Awards most gag-worthy moments, ranked!
10. Tamar & K. Michelle Squash It
In a move that could have taken place earlier in the show, Tamar Braxton and K. Michelle publicly called a truce in their long-going feud that found both women taking shots at each other through social media.
Braxton sang, “I’m sorry K. Michelle and I forgive you, too.” With help from the legendary Patti LaBelle, the two R&B starlets hugged it out and came together on stage to sing LaBelle’s hit “If Only You Knew.”

9. Nicki Minaj: “What was this award for?”
Nicki Minaj pretty much owns the “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” category, because when it comes to consistency, album sales and well, everything, the rapper has zero competition! When Minaj was announced as the winner of the “Viewer’s Choice Award” (voted by the fans), she was grateful but a little confused.
8. Rihanna Previews #BBHMM!
Earlier into the show, the camera cut to Rihanna in the audience holding duct tape. This left everyone at home scratching their heads, but when she eventually duct taped Floyd Mayweather‘s mouth and hands together, things started to make sense…a little.
It turns out, the duct taping skits were teases for her new video “Bitch Better Have My Money,” which the singer previewed to viewers during the show. The video premieres Thursday on Tidal and you know we’ll have it here for you!
7. Jussie Smollett’s Gay Pride message!
Jussie Smollet and Yazz from the show ‘Empire’ performed hits from the show’s soundtrack! Smollett killed “No Apologies,” “You’re So Beautiful” and Yazz finally gave us a live performance of “Drip Drop”!
Smollett used his performance to share a critical social message about marriage equality and race relations, before a hot dance break. How brave was that?!
6. Janelle Monae floats in the air!
Janelle Monae and her new artist Jidenna graced the BET stage with performances of their hit songs “Yoga” and “Classic Man.” It was nice seeing men in Jidenna’s performance in dandy-study suits while affirming they were in fact, classic men.
5. Anthony Hamilton & Gary Clark Jr. tribute B.B. King!
Anthony Hamilton and Gary Clark Jr. may want to consider recording a duet, because they gave a stirring rendition of the late BB King’s classic the “The Thrill is Gone” and it was easily one of the best performances of the night!
4. Rihanna throws cash in Stephen Hill’s face!
Leave it to Vine to catch one of the most shocking behind-the-scenes moments! Just before Rihanna hit the stage to preview her BBHMM video, she appeared to have a disagreement with one of BET’s head honchos Stephen Hill.
The two were caught arguing back and forth and Rih was like eff this and casually threw a stack of cash in Hill’s face! Twitter buzzed the incident could be the end of Hill’s career but clearly they know not what they tweet. Badgalriri later posted a cutesy photo on Instagram of the two making up. Was this staged, Stephen?

3. It’s Bad Boy for life!
It was the reunion everyone was waiting for! Bad Boy celebrates 20 years in the game and Diddy pulled out all of his biggest acts! Taking viewers back to the ‘90s and early 2000s, Puffy and Mase hit the stage and later, 112, the LOX and Faith Evans reminded everyone whose hits once ruled radio and rocked our CD playlists!
In one of the dopest moments of the performance, Lil Kim the Queen Bee rose like C.R.E.A.M. out of the stage’s ground and fired into her iconic verse in “It’s All About the Benjamins.”
Even though Diddy took a tumble in the hole Kim came out of, it didn’t stop him from premiering a new song with Pharrell, who also appeared onstage!
If Bad Boy’s reunion becomes a tour, you better believe we’ll be in the building front row!
2. Smokey Robinson gently reads everyone!
Smokey Robinson’s career spans six decades, so to say his Lifetime Achievement Award was well-deserved would be a gross understatement! Artists Tori Kelly, Robin Thicke and Ne-Yo payed tribute to the music icon and Robinson later used his time on stage to school some of the egos in the room.
“You didn’t start this. You were not the first in line. So don’t be so full of yourselves!” Bloop! Robinson also performed hits, “Tracks of My Tears” and “Crusin” and everyone in the building was two-stepping!
1. Janet Jackson came out of her palace and we cried!
By far, the biggest moment of the night was the Janet Jackson tribute! Ciara, Tinashe and Jason Derulo honored Jackson performing her biggest hits and let’s just say Ciara could have done the tribute alone! Ciara literally transformed into Janet, hitting every move with precision.
She even had Janet’s signature wavy hair on lock! The legend herself later gracefully floated on stage after her dance crew performed her newest single “No Sleeep.”
Janet looked well rested and like the goddess she is. She’s ready to takeover the world and our entire summer!
