Nas Joins the High-Top Fade Crew

If JAWBREAKER had an ideal bae/man oracle, it would be Nas, undoubtedly. We’ve been crushing on the emcee since Strawberry Cupcake lunch boxes and neighborhood double-dutch battles. Naturally, when the legendary Queens rapper makes news, we’re on it. And when he changes up his laid back New York state-of-mind look, we’re all over that, too.

The “Illmatic” rapper recently joined the high-top fade crew. In recent snaps on Instagram, Nas posed with friends at New York’s Catch restaurant sporting the haircut made hot again by New York City’s youth.

Presumingly styled by his go-to barber Marcus Harvey, there’s a natural vibe to the look. The cut isn’t flattened on the top, it’s almost reminiscent of budding locs or a modern take on the ’90s high-top fade made popular by rappers like Christoper “Play” Martin from Kid n ‘Play.

The rapper announced new music is expected this summer but a new album isn’t the only thing Mr. Jones is up to. Nas joins Drake, Rakim and the Notorious B.I.G posthumously, for a new hip hop-centered Sprite campaign. Lyrics by the rappers are featured on the “Obey Your Thirst” soda’s cans. “The World Is Yours” from Nas’ seminal Illmatic album is centered on the product in bold white font. Hopefully a cool TV ad spot will follow. Remember those throwback Sprite commercials?
