After a string of celebrity engagements from Kanye West’s proposal to Kim Kardashian, and rapper Future’s proposal to Ciara—although the marriage didn’t last, sorry, CiCi!—15-carat diamonds became the go-to engagement ring of choice!

Kardashian and clan proudly shared the 15 carat stunner to the world over Twitter and Instagram. Shortly after, NeNe Leakes tweeted (and I presume also palm tree-shaded), “I see these girls are taking a page out of the Nene Leakes book by rocking 15-carat diamond rings.”

But in fact, diamond lovers around the world know, rare diamond rings well into the teens and beyond are simply nothing new.

Marriage proposals by Hollywood’s elite, and the super wealthy accompanied by 16 plus carat diamond rings were arguably the only way to ask a leading lady for her hand in marriage—and to *ahem* show off to the world, as well!

Jawbreaker ranked the hottest celebrity 16-carat plus diamonds in Hollywood history. Drool over sparklers by Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, Beyonce and the Royals, too!

1. In 2008, The Queen Bee, Beyonce was given a diamond ring by Jay-Z so large it was reported she had a cubic zirconia replica of her Lorraine Schwartz 18-carat stunner.

2. Mariah Carey’s $2.5 million rare pink diamond ring (Jennifer Lopez did the pink diamond first, given to her by then fiance Ben Affleck, but the diamond was smaller at 6.1 carats) from hubby Nick Cannon was designed by Jacob Arabo comes in at 17 carats. Allegedly the ring was a repeat engagement ring from Cannon’s previous engagement to model Selita Ebanks, but we’re hoping that’s not true!

3. When Prince Williams proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010, he used the 18-carat diamond ring given to him by his late mother Princess Diana. The now infamous royal blue ring (pun intended) inspired a generation with low-cost replicas made by jewelry retailers around the world!

4. Angelina Jolie’s 16-carat Emerald cut diamond was designed by Robert Procop and given to her by long-time beau Brad Pitt. The couple finally tied the knot late 2014!

 5. For Kim Kardashian’s first try (or second, that’s right) at marriage, NBA player Kris Humphries gave the starlet a a whooping 20.5-carat diamond ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz! Surprisingly the ring is larger than the engagement ring given to her by Kanye—which was a 15-carat go-to diamond ring.

And on to the real Hollywood diamond stunners!

6. Elizabeth Taylor’s mega 33.19-carat diamond was the diamond ring of all diamond rings! The major sparkler was given to the iconic actress by then beau Richard Burton in 1968 during the glory days of their glamorous and controversial love affair. The ring, now known as “The Elizabeth Taylor Ring,” is estimated to be between $2.5-$3.5 million. In an ‘Empire’ episode, Luscious Lyon proposed to girlfriend Anika (or Boo Boo Kitty) with the legendary ring. Did he ever get back after she slept with Hakeem? Hope so!

7. And now for real wow-factor of them all! When Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis married wealthy shipping magnate Aristotle Socrates Onassis in 1968, shortly after the tragic assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Onassis’ gave the former First Lady a 40.42-carat Lesotho diamond designed by Harry Winston! *faints* Although Kennedy-Onassis wasn’t pictured often in the ring (which we completely understand), the ring will go down in diamond history as one of the largest, most desired rings of all time!
