Tyra Banks Confesses She’s Still Scared of Naomi Campbell!

If your formative years were in the 90s, you know the biggest Black supermodels were Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell. What most of us didn’t know was the war brewing between Banks and Campbell in the fashion industry.

Because Banks came along in the modeling world at the time Campbell was the hottest girl on the catwalks, many in their industry pitted the two against each other. This often happens when it comes to women and minorities. For some reason, people believe there can only be one at a time.

In a recent interview with Norwegian/Swedish talk show, “Skavlan,” Banks shared some unknown facts about the beginning of her modeling career and revealed she’s still scared of Campbell till this day.

Many of us remember Banks’ talk show a couple years ago and the infamous sit-down interview she had with Campbell where they discussed everything that went on between them and Banks was able to tell Campbell how some of her actions made her feel. Campbell even apologized.

Thinking everything was cool between the two, the news is rather surprising.

When Banks was just starting out, she was rejected by six modeling agencies in Los Angeles and by the time she got to the seventh, they only took her on for runway modeling.

When she went to Paris , that’s when the comparisons to Campbell began.

“I got to Paris, and it was very difficult. I did really well really fast, but then the industry was saying, ‘Oh, look out Naomi Campbell, here comes Tyra Banks! So Naomi Campbell, sit your butt down,’ ” said Banks.

“It wasn’t fair to Naomi, but her response was … to this day, I’m very scared of her. It was very difficult. — like some of my lowest times of my life — dealing with that.”

Banks has always kept it very real about the hard times she faced in her modeling career. It’s interesting how Campbell has had that lasting affect on her.
