Watch Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae in ‘Hidden Figures’ Trailer

A film you need to have on your radar during the upcoming months is Hidden Figures, which tells the story of three Black women mathematicians working at NASA during the Civil Rights era.

The film is based on the book of the same name, which won’t be available until September 6, although you can pre-order now. Written by Margot Lee Shetterley, Hidden Figures centers on Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, Kathryn Peddrew, Sue Wilder, Eunice Smith and Barbara Holley, all of whom worked at NASA and were called “the colored computers.”

Shetterly is a journalist and her father was one of the first African American engineers to work at NASA.

The film adaptation stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae. A worldwide release date is set for January 13, 2017, but a late 2016 Oscar-qualifying run in select theaters across New York City and Los Angeles might be expected.
