Black Twitter Is NOT Here For New Dating Website Smoochr!
Dating websites apps are all the rage when it comes to millennials finding a potential bae and it looks like everyone wants a piece of the pie. After mainstream apps like Tinder made their mark in the dating app industry, then came niche dating apps for Black millennials such as SoulSwipe and Bae to name a few.
On Sunday night, a new dating website by the name of Smoochr, whose target audience is African Americans, became a trending topic on Twitter for all the wrong reasons. Smoochr’s tagline is “Discover Black Singles by complexion, hair type, and more!”
When filling out a profile, you’re literally asked to describe your hair type (weave, natural, afro, locks, short hair, big hair, etc.), complexion (almond, pecan, etc.) and body type (ripped, curvy, thick, skinny, petite, a little belly fat, athletic, rather not say, etc.). But Smoochr’s not done yet! The app also asks if you would date a single parent, if you have children yourself, if you have a car and are employed. That was enough for the jokes and shade to fly on Twitter from last night into today.
Besides the app being all types of shallow, it shows no type of recognition for the LGBTQ community. There are only two options and they are “woman seeking man” and “man seeking woman.”
It’s safe to say if you have a Smoochr profile, you’re getting all types of side eyes, which is exactly what Twitter is currently giving the app.

FYI, the objectification we constantly see on Twitter has been transferred into app form via Smoochr, which is what makes it distasteful.

The worst part of this Smoochr app is that it now makes my dating site for Hoteps completely useless. RIP Ashy Madison.

For real though…Can #smoochr add a fraternity/sorority filter? Let’s just add all of Black folks social hierarchies in this dating app 😂😂😂

I don’t believe that black dating app is real for the sole reason of it being named “Smoochr”
