BET Announces Prince Tribute Headliners on Singer’s 58th Birthday

The wounds from Prince’s death are still fresh and painful as the world continues to mourn the devastating loss of a legend.

No one has grieved quite like other artists have, as musical tributes have popped up both subtlety in places like the Formation World Tour and the not so subtle, but widely talked about, Billboard awards tribute headlined by Madonna.

People were not here for Madonna’s Prince’s tribute and didn’t feel she was capable of doing him justice, even after Madonna performed  “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Purple Rain” with some help from Stevie Wonder and QuestLove. But it seemed like no one had more to say about Madonna’s tribute than BET.

In a since deleted tweet, BET shaded Madonna and announced their own Prince tribute in less than 10 words.

Ever since then we’ve been eagerly waiting to see what BET would be bringing for their Prince tribute to back up all that shade they threw at the queen of pop.

Well on Tuesday, which marks Prince’s 58th birthday, the network finally dropped some info on the lineup for the tribute which is slated to take place June 26th at the BET Awards.

The 4 headliners for the show are some serious heavy hitters and include D’angleo, Janelle Monae, Sheila E., and The Roots.  The announcement of each headliner came in an article entitled “The Greatest Prince Tribute Ever” which included a small blurb about why each person was chosen.

BET is coming in hot with their Prince tribute, so we’ve got some high expectations for this year’s BET awards. Let’s hope they come ready to back up all this talk and give us a tribute that will leave us on our living room floors like:
