Beyonce Speaks Out About the “Formation” Controversy

Queen Bey is cover girl for the May issue of ELLE where she gave her first interview in the past few years.

Among the many topics, she spoke about the backlash she’s faced in light of her performance of “Formation” during the Super Bowl halftime show. Many thought Beyonce paying homage to the Black Panther Party was anti-police and there were even protests.

Bey finally speaks out about the message she was trying to send.

“Anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken,” she said.

“I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let’s be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things. If celebrating my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me.”

Well said, Bey, well said.
