Usher’s Music Video for ‘Chains’ is Powerfully Woke!

Usher just released a new video and it is not your typical, shirt off, sweat dripping, hip grinding banger.

The video for his song “Chains”  has dropped and it’s pretty clear that he wanted to use the video as a reminder of the dark reality of the American social justice system and Black America.

The video which features artists Nas and Bibi Bourelly, is a black and white monochromatic story of guns, violence, death, and incarceration. It’s packed with powerful imagery of everything from gripping gun powder to church funeral scenes all leading up to the climatic ending twist.

Usher commented on his new video via Instagram stating, “‘Chains’ is my way of spreading light on the issues we face in our social injustice system. As artists we have to use our platform to spread awareness and inspire action. Please visit chainshub.org and @sankofadotorg to learn how you can get involved and build a more effective social movement.”

The mix of the vocal power, the musical prowess, and the bold imagery in the video combine to make for one chilling and impactful visual representation.

Check out the video and let us know if you’re here for it.
