Audra McDonald is Billie Holiday in Trailer for new HBO Special
Audra McDonald made history as Broadway’s most decorated performer when she took home her sixth Tony Award for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill,” in 2014.
The show was in such high demand that it’s run at the Circle in the Square Theater on Broadway was extended four times and now you’ll be able to watch it from the comfort of your couch.
The new HBO special was filmed before a live audience at Cafe Brasil in New Orleans and features McDonald in her powerhouse history-making role as Billie Holiday.
Through iconic songs like “God Bless the Child,” “What a Little Moonlight Can Do,” “Strange Fruit” and “Taint Nobody’s Biz-ness,” the production tells the story of Holiday’ s life and her climb to fame.
Not only did Audra McDonald win her sixth Tony, but she is also the first person to receive awards across all four acting categories. Her performance as Billie Holiday has been labeled as iconic.
The exclusive presentation of “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill” is scheduled to debut on HBO March 12,2016 and will also be available on HBO GO and HBO Now.
